September-November 2009 Election Results
As provided by the LSA Constitution, Article IV, the Nominating Committee of the LSA, after soliciting nominations from the membership, proposed one person for the position of Vice President and two for each vacant position on the Executive Committee. This slate of candidates, along with four proposed amendments to the LSA Constitution, was posted on the LSA website in early June 2009. LSA members were then invited to nominate write-in candidates for governance positions and to submit statements for or against the proposed amendments. Ballots for the slate of candidates and for the proposed amendments were made available on the LSA website from 7 September through 7 November.
The newly-elected Vice President/President-Elect of the LSA is Dr. Sandra Chung (University of California, Santa Cruz). The two new at-large members of the Executive Committee are Dr. Maria Polinsky (Harvard University) and Dr. Eric Potsdam (University of Florida). These individuals will officially begin their terms of office at the conclusion of the 84th Annual Meeting of the LSA in Baltimore, Maryland next January.
Four proposed amendments to the LSA Constitution were also submitted to the membership for a vote. The first of these, which concerned a revision to the membership of the Nominating Committee, was defeated. The others-one concerning the membership of the Audit Committee and two removing the constitutional mandates for the Committee on Honorary Members and COMSIT-passed. The full text of the proposed amendments is available here (login to LSA website required).
