Technology Advisory Committee

2008

Background

At its January 2006 meeting, the LSA Executive Committee reviewed the mandates of the Computing and Web Advisory Committees and determined that these two committees should be combined and renamed the Technology Advisory Committee (TAC).

Responsibilities

  1. To advise the LSA Executive Committee and other advisory committees on what digital products and services to provide the membership and how to provide them, including reviewing recommendations from the Committee on Membership Services and Information Technology (COMSIT) regarding the LSA website.

  2. To serve as liaison between the LSA and digital standards bodies (e.g., ISO and the Unicode Consortium) and to coordinate this work with the LSA's sister societies, both within linguistics and other disciplines, in order to ensure that the interests of the field of linguistics are represented in the development and maintenance of digital standards.

  3. To advise the LSA Executive Committee on what actions to take with respect to the development of new digital modes of dissemination for scholarly linguistic work.

  4. To assess the role of new technologies in linguistics instruction and support efforts for such technologies to be used by instructors.
